Injury Specialists is a rehabilitation clinic where a patient should come if he/she has been told over and over again that their pain problem can not be treated or corrected. The physician – physical therapy team does detailed, intricate, labor intensive work that other practitioners do not. Our clinic does not teach people to “cope” with their pain or simply take different medication. On the other hand, it is also a clinic that treats competitive athletes who want to maximize their performance. For over twenty years Injury Specialists has treated patients with all sorts of pain problems including post surgical pain, breast cancer, and pain caused by motor vehicle accidents or work related injuries. If surgery is necessary, for optimal surgical outcome, treatment should be given before and after to restore biomechanics. At Injury Specialists, we understand the frustration pain can cause, and diagnose the source of the pain to have a rational treatment plan to restore biomechanics.
Injury Specialists is a progressive practice, integrating structural and functional analysis of the patient’s body as part of the treatment plan. Most of the time, the patient has a history of previous trauma which has gone unnoticed, thus the name “Injury Specialists”. We feel it is important to pay attention to every detail, including psychological and social factors. As medicine has become technologically complex, with sophisticated diagnostic testing (e.g. the MRI scanner), less emphasis has been placed on patient history and physical examination.
If a diagnostic test reveals no abnormality, the physician often can find no cause nor offer any solution for a patient’s pain. Our approach (combines patient assessment, diagnosis, injection therapy and medical management with manual physical therapy, rehabilitation and surgery) integrates injury anatomy, injury physiology, and injury structural and functional changes, and their effects on pain. Our approach to rehabilitation integrates knowledge of injury anatomy, injury physiology, structural and functional changes, and their effects on pain.
The team’s approach also stresses patient education regarding the connection of their pain to abnormal structure and function.
The physicians practice interventional medicine with injections “integrated” with manual physical therapy. This integrated approach focuses on mobilization of the spine in coordination with treatment of peripheral dysfunctions.
Much of what we have learned we have learned from listening to patients and constantly seeking solutions to pain problems. Frequently, we are the 9th physician the patient has consulted for the same problem. It is their wish that more practitioners understand and learn to diagnose pain and make appropriate referrals for effective treatment.
